#Twifridoodle session January 20th, 2012

Here’s a recap of Friday’s #twifridoodle session, the first of 2012. It was an incredibly harried day but I managed to sneak two in.

Equally delicious and deadly, the first request was from @sketchbob: “Thundermuffin.”

Our own resident Englishman in NY vs. the avian flu. The second was from @planetdouche: “ill Eagle vs. legal alien”

Join me again next Friday at 10AM for another #Twifridoodle. Send your requests!

New Work: To Resolve Project 2012

For the second year in a row, Jayro participated in Chris Streger’s To Resolve Project. If you’re not aware of it, Chris’s concept is brilliant. The site houses a collection of well-designed and inspired phone lock-screen wallpapers incorporating a New Year’s resolution so that the user will be reminded of it every time they use their phone. Check out the incredible roster of amazing designs, and download one for yourself. Feel free to download Jayro’s contribution for 2012 below, or find Jayro’s 2011 Contribution here.

Top #Twifridoodles of 2011

The #Twifridoodle was originally conceived as a way to keep myself drawing and thinking on my feet. The idea was to do it in real time after the request, execute something and immediately post it back on Twitter. Sometimes this worked well, other times I wasn’t as proud of the outcome, but  I did it and it was out there warts and all. Overall looking back on 2011, it was a fun year of #Twifridoodling and here is a compilation of some of my favorites.

I sincerely appreciate all the interest and enthusiasm around it. The best part was the interaction with everyone making requests. Thanks go out to all those who joined in the fun, I look forward to another year of these. As a reminder, I do the #twifridoodle sessions most Fridays starting at 10AM. Send a request to @jayrodesign, I’d love to hear from you.

#Twifridoodle Session: December 30th

For the last #Twifridoodle session of 2011, I had some special guest doodlers. Since it was the holidays and school was out, I enlisted the help of my children. Any request got a two-for-one doodle. Here are the results:

For @davidsizemore: “Macaroni and cheese playing a friendly tennis match against each other.”

New Work: Raygun 52 Submission

Here are Jayro’s contributions to Alex Griendling‘s futuristic raygun-a-week armory, Raygun52. Behold the Tree Spirit Ray and Dragon Ray! Here is some background field data to accompany them:

Tree Spirit Briefing: New technologies developed in 2056 allowed scientists to see and capture powerful life forms inhabiting trees and plant life for study. Particularly potent spirits were consequently discovered deep in the Amazon in various species of trees. Through research and development, scientists were able to replicate and contain these life forms to harness, project, and weaponize their inherent energy. For maximum power displacement, each weapon is made from the indigenous wood the tree spirits inhabit. As such, the housing is capable of being recycled indefinitely. When reserves run low, the Spirit Ray’s Photochloric Power Chamber can also synthesize energy from sunlight.

Dragon Ray Briefing: As objects became more and more mass-produced and look-alike in the future, the desire for more bespoke and individualized objects increased dramatically. The Dragon Ray is the answer to those who want a more unique and fierce-looking method of particle-based destruction.

In addition to the Raygun52 project, Alex is putting together a really nice Time Travel calendar for 2012. Check them both out!

New Work: Salvation Army Bell Ringer Association Tees

Jayro was recently contacted by Fulton Hawk, the hip, Curator-of-Cool-and-Super-Nice-Guy-Commander-in-Chief* of  Salvation Army’s WARdrobe program, to design a shirt that would support one of their global causes. In addition to some really primo designs from some supremely talented designers, proceeds from all the WARdrobe shirts go directly to helping those in need. How could we refuse?

While working on that yet unreleased tee, another opportunity arose to design a shirt to support all the volunteers who brave the elements, stand outside of retail stores, ring the bell, and collect funds in the red kettle for those in need around the holidays. The result of the collaboration with Fulton is the Bell Ringer Association tee. Shirts are printed on incredibly soft red Tultex Blend Tees and are available for purchase HERE.

New Work: Pixar Times Blog Knick Knacks

The entire Knick Knacks series from the Pixar Times blog has finally been released and here is Jayro’s contribution to the project. Our piece was inspired by the Pixar short Day & Night.

There are some really wonderful contributions and a few waves of releases, so check them out here: Pixar Times Blog.

#Twifridoodle Session October 14th

Friday’s session was a blast. Everyone had some great requests and there were some really funny results. As a reminder, every Friday at 10 AM I take requests via Twitter, doodle them live and tweet them back.  If you’d like to submit a request for a doodle, find me on Twitter as @jayrodesign and send it to me.

Here’s the recap:

For @dain who was having some problems with gnats swarming: “there are too many gnats in my kitchen”

For @theartofHERO who wanted an iPhone 4S doodle: “Siri, what’s the weather going to be like tomorrow?”

For @LittleJohn312: “a Platypus!” In researching the Platypus, I discovered that they have venom and sense their prey electrochemically. Who knew that Platypii were such badasses?

Pixar Times Project

Jayro just wrapped up a cool project for the Pixar Times Blog. Inspired by the Vinylmation project from Disney, Jayro was among several artists tapped to create some custom Pixar artwork within a common character shape. Things have not been officially released yet, so we can’t share anything except for this, but when everything is live, we’ll share the full link. We’re sure that there will be some knockout work, so stay tuned!

Farewell, Steve

I can’t say much that hasn’t been said already. Goodbye to one of the biggest visionaries of our time, your impact is immeasurable. Rest in Peace, Mr. Jobs. It truly is a sad day for us all.

#Twifridoodle Session September 23rd

We had a fun #twifridoodle session today, the theme was animals. Here’s a recap of today’s festivities:

For @jpillustration: Koalastein

For @bishopia: “gorilla businessman can’t wait for the weekend”

New Work: Adventure Time PR Artwork

This image was created to promote the Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake episode amongst the press. Cartoon Network provided the character images and Jayro digitally inked and converted the characters into vector format. Jayro continues to work with Cartoon Network to provide vector character art for style guides, promotional materials, apparel and other consumer products.
